Christmas Morning Story Telling and Treats with Rev. Irene Whitmore & Stephanie Damilano Bring your kids, grandkids, neighbors...
Sunday - december 18, 2016

Rev. Sheila will be available at Unity of Stockton to sign a copy of her new book, hot off the press, for you on Sunday, Dec. 18, at 11:30 a.m., after her talk.
The Long Journey Home takes a fresh look at one of the most widely-recognized and most frequently interpreted of the many parables taught by Jesus during his ministry. Using the process of metaphysical interpretation along with the concepts of Conscious Evolution and Quantum Science, the Parable emerges from a great story about coming home and forgiveness to an exploration into how our life experiences are valuable teach points and may provide powerful catalysts for quantum shifts in consciousness. Further, when we look at our lives as a classroom and the people who show up as master teachers, we are no longer victims of a randomness of life; rather, we are powerful co-creators of a life whose purpose is to rise above the challenges that come and grow into the Truth of our Being: That we are spiritual beings having a spiritual experience on a human plane in a body. Like the Prodigal Son and Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, when we come to ourselves, we find that we never left home in the first place because the Heart is where Home is. Use the concepts, exercises and prayers in the book to facilitate your own journey home. It is only as long as the distance from the head to the heart.

She also has released a Meditation CD entitled Light Visions and is currently recording a new meditation CD.

Sunday Talk with
Amitabhan (Ami) "The Living Truth"
The Native American story of Jumping Mouse is a transmission of profound spiritual wisdom. It is accessible to children, and contains a deeply moving message for adults. Ultimately, it points to our own transformation; from longing to fulfillment, and from uncertainty to a deep connection to spirit.
Ami (Amitabhan) shares his music at retreats and events with well-known spiritual teachers, at yoga studios, and at new-thought churches/centers throughout the US and into Canada. Past experience includes events with Matthew Fox, Adyashanti, Gangaji, and Martha Creek. He tours widely, appearing at up to 150 events per year, and has performed with Jennifer Berezan, Kirtana, and other well-known spiritual artists.
A guitar player for over 30 years and performing since 1989, Ami has been deeply influenced by a variety of spiritual and musical traditions. His original music ranges from uplifting anthems to ballads "born in the depths of a quieted gratitude." Equally comfortable performing his own inspired material or sharing sacred chants in Kirtan settings, his music evokes the sacred - blending reverence with a sense of surrender into the changeless.
Given the name "Amitabhan" by Amma (Mata Amritanandamayi) in 2001, his words and music spring from many years of meditation, devotion, and wisdom based spiritual exploration. An award-winning songwriter, he especially loves sharing songs/chants that open the heart and reconnect audiences with the peace that is our true nature.

Like physical exercise, yoga, and meditation, a practice of empathy contributes to mental-emotional well-being, happiness, and peace, and more optimal functioning. A process for giving and receiving empathy brings compassion into difficult conversations, disconnection, and conflict, and inspires collaboration that leads to new creative possibilities and emergent solutions. This work is based in the international work of Compassionate Communication (Nonviolent Communication, NVC).
A practice of empathy gives you:
- Mental peace and clarity
- Emotional intelligence and creativity
- Effective teamwork and decision making
- Happiness and fulfillment
- Enhanced relationships
In the session, you'll learn about and practice with the elements of empathy from John's Mediate Your Life training program, in the context of having conversations that matter. You'll also learn John's 3 Chairs Process for difficult conversations that he offers in organizations.
John is co-founder of the International Mediate Your Life training company. He leads trainings around the U.S. and internationally, and facilitates people reconciling and resolving conflicts peacefully and collaboratively. His vision is a critical mass of people, organizations, and institutions around the world using structures for speaking and listening with empathy, contributing to a global culture of compassion and collaboration. So we can respond effectively to the challenges we face, and build a peaceful, healthy, and sustainable world for everyone.
John worked closely for over a decade with Marshall Rosenberg, founder of the international work of Nonviolent Communication (NVC).
John has been a trainer of the Center for Nonviolent Communication (CNVC) since 2000. He co-founded the Bay Area's NVC organization and has been a trainer for the International Center for Nonviolent Communication since 2000, and a leader in the world-wide NVC community.
John earned a BA from the University of San Francisco, where he studied psychology and philosophy - earning a degree in clinical psychology from Penn State University. During his five years of doctoral training, he worked as a psychotherapist with individuals and groups and as a research assistant at the Penn State Stress and Anxiety Disorders Institute.

![]() Sunday Talk with Lily Sandberg
"Holding the High Watch" In Unity, we tend to talk about ourselves in duality: the human self that is controlled by the ego, we will call it our "Little Me" and the higher self governed by our Christ consciousness, our "Big Me". But in the end, we are all one. We are human beings having a spiritual experience in the world. As Unity students, we know that we are called to live as often as we can from the place of our "Big Me" place and it is not easy, but that is part of our job in this world. There are many times in my life where I know in the moments and after the moment that we are not living from our "Big Me" place, but then we also have the opportunity to be gentle with ourselves and try again. We are called every day to wake up with the intention to hold the high watch for the whole world, knowing that there is goodness in everyone and holding the space for that goodness to emerge in the world. This is a difficult task when we look on the news and see terrible things happening in the world. That is our opportunity to go back to our principles of prayer and affirmations. Join me on Sunday as we discuss the opportunities we have to hold the high watch and emerge as Truth students in the world. Lily Sandberg is a future Unity minister and has grown up with Unity principles since birth. She believe the teachings of the Fillmore’s have the power to change the world for all ages. New Year, New Life
In Unity, and in the broadest and most important sense, Life is that great indefinable "something" that enlivens and energizes every living thing. Scientists still cannot truly define what "life" actually is, other than perhaps a form of energy. Have you ever used the phrase, "breathe life into a project?" It means we give it an energy, a force, that generates excitement and results. We can breathe life into the thoughts, feelings, ideas, and beliefs we hold. We can enliven and energize our lives and our actions for the highest good for ourselves and others.
How do we do that? And what are we like when our power of "life" is underdeveloped? Or when it is overdeveloped? Or when it comes from an elevated consciousness?
Sheila Johnson is a counselor/professor at San Joaquin Delta College, and Board President at Unity of Stockton. She is also a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist and Certified BePeace Teacher. She is currently taking classes in ministerial studies.
